Tongtan “Bert” Chantarat is a research scientist at the Center for Antiracism Research for Health Equity, University of Minnesota School of Public Health. Dr. Chantarat's scholarship focuses broadly on elucidating mechanisms that produce and reinforce racial health inequities – particularly between Black and white people – and evaluating the potential impacts of policy interventions to disrupt these mechanisms. He is nationally recognized as an emerging leader in the fields of structural racism, work and workplace inequities, and quantitative methods for antiracist research. His work on the multidimensional measure of structural racism earned him an award from the Interdisciplinary Association for Population Health Science, which recognizes research that has the potential to revolutionize the field of population health. He is currently an MPI, project lead, and co-I on four NIH- and two Robert Wood Johnson Foundation-funded studies focusing on racial inequities in birth outcomes and chronic diseases and the application of the community-led system-science approach to design and prioritize health policy. Dr. Chantarat earned his PhD in Health Services Research, Policy, and Administration from the University of Minnesota and an MPH in Epidemiology from Columbia University
